8 Years - A Review Reflecting on the Goal Achievement of the Congress of the People (COP) Creating The New Political Culture: ETHICS AND INTEGRITY IN POLITICS * The COP has consistently demanded the highest of conduct in public political life from its own and others * Where there has been allegation of wrongdoing, we have called on those so accused to step aside and allows full investigation. * this we have steadfastly applied to our own and to all others. * The Code of Political Conduct we proposed in 2009 is now signed by political parties. CONSULTATION AND CONSENSUS BUILDING * The COP in its formation and its practice in and out of government has established this method of working in political and public affairs. * Public consultation has become the norm in everything from preparing laws to reforming the Constitution * Government services, particular those provided by the Register-Generals Department have been made accessible in more parts of the country * In the Tunapuna constituency, we introduced the non-partisan Partnership Council as one organisational form of achieving this. ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY IN PUBLIC AFFAIRS * The COP has demands the level of accountability and transparency in the conduct of the affairs of all institutions, all organs of governance, individual representatives and political parties * The Constitution Reform report proposes greater powers for Parliamentary oversight committees, scrutiny of Board appointees, fuller reporting by Independent bodies * The COP has kept party financing on the front burner and it before both the EBC and a Joint Select Committee of Parliament for implementation REFORM OF OUR GOVERNMENT ARRANGEMENT * Constitution Reform is now a reality with Bills for Parliament decision. * The reshaping of the Tobago-Trinidad relationship is also on the front burner. * Reform of Local Government is beyond the stage of consultation. * Proportional representation was introduced in the appointment of Aldermen at the local government level. * The COP through its Grand Consensus led the way in cementing the coalition politics in the landscape of our political life. * While the PNM has finally presented its policy on Constitution reform, proportional representation is not among its 10-points. * Several Ministries have improved their service delivery and customer service delivery. I CAN GO ON AND ON WITH THE COP ACCOMPLISHMENT IN 4 YRS IN Coalition Govt......The COP is a FORCE to be reckon....we are One Nation......One People......
