(8 mins) Jackson Vernons story on the Newcastle Port Sale for the ABCs 7.30-NSW programme. We hear from (now) NSW Treasurer, Andrew Constance; Hunter Business Chamber President, Richard Anicich; NSW Greens MLC, John Kaye; Newcastle Unis Professor Stephen Chen; Resource Analyst, Colin Randall, Local Resident, John Hayes; and Hunter Community Environment Centre spokesman, John MacKenzie. This is quite a detailed story showing the results of the sale (err 98 year lease), and possible future pathways for the region. We mustnt forget, for instance, how dredging up to 100,000 cubic metres (1/3 of that allowed at Abbot Point - slated to overtake Newcastle in size) has been granted to the lessee by virtue of the lease. No Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), no Review of Environmental Factors (REF), but simply as part of the lease. At least this video is a must-see, for the coverage of China Merchants, one of the purchasers/lessees. PLEASE SHARE IN THE INTERESTS OF NEWCASTLE
