80%Perspiration to 20% Preparation What does this quote really mean, and why doesnt anyone feel both words are important these days? Perspiration = hard work, training, developing, persistence, commitment, focus, concentration, and fitness. These are just a few, so maybe thats why is equals 80%. Preparation = Knowing and planning what you need to do, achieve, learn, develop, fix and so on. So, this brings me to why do players and some parents often believe that they or their child do not need to apply these things to their netball these days. I could bet my house on the fact that all the ANZ players got where they are with the help of these two words. They would have trained with their club team and then, their rep teams, regionals, academy, states and even their schools and possibly indoor as well. Then if they really wanted to be the best, they would have also done their own fitness training and programs at home too. Not one player can afford not to train and keep healthy and fit. And they need to extend themselves to push past the point of comfort to be able to build on their current level. Often I hear coaches and managers complaining about players and their excuses or even their parents excuses why their princess cannot perform for the whole session, or excuses why they cant step up and improve. Well, these players are not the ones we will see in the ANZ of tomorrow. They will make it to around 16 maybe a little older then fold because the going gets too tough, and they dont like tough. The reason is they havent been made to work for their position and now they wont like the fact that they need to. Whilst all this is happening , the player who has worked and adapted to the advice and training the whole time, has suddenly caught up with the natural talent and will have that strength and determination to push hard and keep growing to become a strong and consistent player that every coach, and team would love to have.
