81,000 distraught civilians are now taking shelter from the relentless violence in 61 UNRWA schools in #Gaza. There were at least 54 people killed over night. Ten were children - seven boys and two girls. The death toll in Gaza since 8 July has reached 368 people and about 2,295 injured. At least 80 children are amongst the total dead. Two new Israeli ground incursions occurred over night, including one in Shejaiha, east of Gaza City. Shejaiha was particularly badly affected with thousands fleeing their homes this morning, as heavy bombardment from Israeli tanks and artillery continued. Medical authorities at Shifa hospital reported that 300 injured people had already been received and confirmed 40 fatalities this morning. The numbers of dead and injured from Shejaiha could increase significantly as it is understood that they may be many more still unable to evacuate. As with the three previous violent conflicts in the last five and a half years, there is nowhere for the women, men and children of Gaza to escape to. We are providing shelter, food, water, sleeping and hygiene items. We are also preparing for vital interventions necessary after the cessation of military activities, including desperately needed psychosocial support.
