888PL / APL QUEENSLAND AND NORTHERN NSW State Finals Season 3 - 2014 They travelled in droves from all corners of Northern NSW and Queensland to descend upon the mighty Kedron Wavell Services Club in Brisbane and after a massive day of poker action, a new State Champion has been crowned. 592 players took to the felt for the Season 3 State Final and they came from as far as Mount Isa in the West, Cairns in the North and Grafton in the South. Over 2700 games were held and over 81000 players sat during the season and gathered in the one room were the ‘BEST OF THE BEST’ from both the 888PL and APL brands from all over QLD and Northern NSW. Prizes on the day included a VEGAS package worth $6500, seats to our $500 000 MAIN EVENT at Crown Casino, seats to our $90 000 BIG ONE III tournament and plenty of cash. There was a flurry of activity early on and within nine minutes we had lost our first player who promptly left the building …………..ouch !!! Heading into the lunch break our chip leader was Troy from South Brisbane with 235k with a monster lead – the average stack at this time was roughly 47k. Just after lunch we saw many players drop out of the tournament and we lost many tables in quick succession. Well known players such as George Obiso from the Gold Coast and Rob Crepin from Ipswich found it tough going during this period and George hit the rail and Rob was crippled with only 40k left. DON’T FORGET THE LADIES – the girls hit back and Jade from Cleveland hits the chip lead with 260k with 220 players remaining at 3pm. Kerry Timperley ‘an APL original’ and representing the ‘swich saw her pocket Q’s run into Q 6 and the rest is history. We came back from the afternoon tea break with round 200 players left and the short stacks all disappeared – Jackson Wood went “All in” on the buffet and kept the chef busy. With blinds at 3000/6000 we had 20 tables remaining and we see a new chip leader who would dominate for most of the afternoon –Peter Swift from Tweed Heads took a huge pot and looks down at 450k in chips sitting in front of him. It was at this point that Ben Aldons from Brisbane South made a massive move and tables pocket Q’s against his opponents J’s and collects a 300k pot. Between 3pm and 5pm we started to lose all the short stacks as they pushed in hoping to stay alive. A tricky hand at around 4.28pm saw Sean Everett ‘get the call’ from the floor to come and sort it out which he did before any of TD’s knew what was happening. A legend of the sport! Kevin was holding K2 and Jimmy had QQ - the flop was JQJ. Kevin bets all-in and Jimmy calls. Turn comes J and river is a J. The table erupts and calls in Sean “Sidepot” Everett who immediately makes an executive decision and cries out “ mis-deal / split pot / get off the phone ahh ummm …I dunno guys “….. Everett stares at it for a furher twelve minutes and declares “Four of a kind with a K kicker ….” TD’s Nebe and Miller are left floundering on the rail and drop to the floor wailing “we are not worthy – we are not worthy ” The battle waged on during the afternoon and starting to make a move is Ursula Grulke from Brisbane South who starts to peg back the leaders. Pete Smith from Tweed is going from strength to strength and can do ‘no wrong’ and has a massive 700k in from of him – holding 6 % of chips in play with 100 players left. HANG ON PETE – you have lost the lead !!! With 65 players left we see a huge pot all in pre flop AJ v 10 10 Mike from Moreton Bay Sports snags a straight on the river to take a 800k pot and the chip lead. Glenn Fryar from Toowoomba who was the first player to register on the day goes out in 32nd place and following quickly we see: 31st – Coral Wilson from the Shafstson Hotel 30th – Josh from Byron Bay 29th – Mark from City South 28th – Nadiem from the Gold Coast 27th – Paul O’Connor from Brisbane South – aka “the Grinder” 26th – Fiona Katu from the Gold Coast 25th – Dru Nguyen from Brisbane South 24th – Michael Messer – Brisbane South 23rd – Liz Mitchell – who was celebrating her birthday. 22nd – Francis McKenna – 21st – Ben from the Gold Coast 20th – Paul Tullock from Brisbane 19th – Norah Greer from Brisbane 18th- Paul from Brisbane East 17th – A man of mystery – no photo – no details BANG WE HAVE HIT THE MONEY !!! - WITH 16 PLAYERS REMAINING.
