8am and the daily retrieval of ponies from the grassy paddock to the bare paddock begins. The human has armed herself with carrots to aid the process. 8.01am: No sign of any ponies. The human shakes the bucket of carrots hopefully. 8.01am and 3 seconds: The human picks herself up off the grass where she has been punted by a joyful FP who is desperate to have his muzzle off and hasnt seen a carrot in MONTHS. 8.10am: SFP grudgingly appears from over the hill and allows himself to be caught and deposited in the bare paddock. Still no sign of MFP. 8.20am: MFP has been located luxuriating in the long grass at the back of the paddock and is refusing to come in. The human begins laying a trail of carrots. 8.30am: MFP is 4 paces away from the gate and the human has run out of carrots. There is a standoff. The human is pretending to have more in her pockets and MFP is having none of it. 8.35am: The human goes to get more carrots. MFP stages a tactical retreat into the long grass. 8.35am and 3 seconds: The human picks herself up off the grass where she has been punted by a joyful FP who has forgotten about his first serving of carrots. 8.40am: MFP is at the gate and has one hoof in the bare paddock. The human is grovelling. 8.40am and 2 seconds: There is a noise like a bomb landing and SFP arrives scattering carrots and MFP everywhere. 8.41-9am: The entire process is repeated. 9.01am: Eventually all 3 ponies are in the bare paddock. The human triumphantly goes to switch the electric on. Nothing. 9.01am and 3 seconds: MFP goes through the fence, swiftly followed by a brace of Haflingers. The human goes to get a new battery, more carrots and a stiff drink.....
