9:03 pm - Halloween I just got home and settled to go back to checking papers when suddenly I heard a stranger from outside the gate asking for food. We occasionally have strangers asking if we have food to spare, but they do that in daytime so I wasnt so sure if I should even entertain this guy at this hour. I think I said something like But its late in the evening - and the dogs were just kept barking and I didnt want the noise to wake my parents up so I checked if we had rice - yes, and placed a handful inside a plastic and added all of the fried spring rolls. I went out and gave it all to the young guy and asked where he was from -taga Balulang ko, Why are you here in Nazareth? I asked. He mumbled his answer said thank you and left. I went back inside, sat and thought about the encounter. I knew he hasnt gone far from our house yet. Water - he needed water - I thought. Went straight to the fridge and grabbed a bottle of water. Went out of the house (let Spruce join me) and I saw him eating his meal just along the elementary school walls. I offered him the water and asked again where he was from -taga Balulang ko, sa Manggahan. I went back home (Spruce was kind enough to tag along) and closed the gates. Wait, he needs to go home. He needs money to go home. Checked my pockets and went out again (Spruce was again happy to oblige). I saw him still eating his meal and I handed him the money but he said he only needed food - he was hungry. I insisted and he took it and I reminded him to go home. I asked who was at home waiting for him and he said his mother was. I wonder if he has gone home.
