9/07/14 Announcements:News Flash!!! Bishop Rogers was released today as Bishop of Hamilton Ward after serving for about five years. We are so thankful for all of the service he has rendered on our behalf. A special thank you to his wife Kelly Rogers for all the hours sacrificed as she shared in Eric’s calling. We would like to welcome Bishop Brian Hawkes and his counselors Johnny Meuchel and Brett Heath! For those of you who don’t know, Wes and Ruth Williams are moving to Logan this week so make sure you say goodbye. Ruth, we will miss you! Tomorrow is the funeral service for Antara’s brother Tandy Mason at 2pm at the Daly Leach Chapel. A reception will follow at the church. We still need some people to sign up for salads as well as people to set up and clean up, so contact Jani if you can help. We are expecting about 300 people so any help is appreciated. Now on to the lesson: Kathy Dickemore taught our Presidency message today based mostly off the talk, “The Race of Life” By President Thomas S. Monson. “Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where do we go after this life? No longer need these universal questions remain unanswered.” lds.org/general-conference/2012/04/the-race-of-life?lang=eng We listed on the board all the different experiences that have brought either immense joy or immense pain into our lives this past summer. We had everything listed from weddings and funerals to endowments, missions, births, change of callings, hip replacement and other surgeries. All experiences we have make up…LIFE! Kathy stated that we qualify ourselves as we go through all the things of life. The Apostle Paul likened life to a race. To the Hebrews he urged, “Let us lay aside … the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” In our zeal, let us not overlook the sage counsel from Ecclesiastes: “The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong.” Actually, the prize belongs to him or her who endures to the end. Think about the people we interact with. They have a profound impact on our lives. Jami said we need to understand and be aware of what His plan is for us. We need to experience emotions both good and bad to understand and appreciate life. Kathy re-read the scripture Brett had shared in his testimony after being sustained to be 2nd Counselor in the Bishopric. 2 Nephi 2:24-25. Remember, “Adam fell that men might be and men are that they might have joy!” Kathy reminded us that there are tender mercies in everything we experience! President Uchtdorf said, “We are made of the stuff of eternity… Endings are not our destiny.” We all need to help each other endure the 2nd act. Kathy talked about how touched she was with President Recht sharing his testimony of the Savior at the end of Brother Horsley’s funeral. Isn’t that what this life is all about? Kathy ended by saying we need to cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Krista shared a sweet testimony of eternity and Deidre shared a testimony of hospitality. We need to learn to rejoice in our afflictions and sometimes we have to pray for Him to teach us how to rejoice!
