9/11 morning thoughts: I walk into a room and can’t remember - TopicsExpress

9/11 morning thoughts: I walk into a room and can’t remember what I went in there for, but I can still remember the morning of 9/11 with so much detail it’s scary. I had a 3 yr old and a 22 month old. I was making cinnamon rolls for a playgroup later in the morning. I stood motionless in front of the TV with toddlers grabbing at my legs, they were oblivious to the unfathomable suffering I was witnessing. Then when the towers collapsed, I ran out my front door to my neighbor across the street to see if she too was watching the world change in front of her eyes, like I was. I remember having the same thought the rest of the day, and for days, weeks, and months after that. I would look at my boys and think, “What have I done? What kind of world did I just bring children into?” I managed to choose hope and love and laughter in the years that followed, and had two more children. Today are we safer? Well, tomorrow is guaranteed to nobody, terrorism or not. I sometimes allow myself to feel too much despair when I watch awful story after story on the news. I need to turn it off and seek out the good. I have to constantly tell myself, there is so much more in the world than tragedy and sadness. There is. There. Just. Is. Dear God please continue to show it to me.
