9/11 will be a day I will never forget. We all know the events of that day, one of the worst days our country has faced. Thousands of Americans lost their lives at the hands of a group of cowards that hid out in caves, villages and spider holes. This day was very personal for our family as this group of cowards aimed their hatred at our son, brother and uncle. My brother was one of the fortunate ones to escape with his life as the Pentagon was attacked. I remember sitting at my parents home praying for the phone to ring, waiting to hear his voice. Seconds turned to minutes, minutes to hours. The call finally came that we all prayed for. Little did we know, that this was the beginning of YEARS of waiting on the next call. When a loved one is in the military it is 9/11 for them everyday, especially in these times of conflict all over the world. My brother was deployed one month after the events of 9/11, for 3 straight months he hiked the mountains on Afghanistan, doing what he does, helping protect our country and our freedom, as all those who serve and have served. He was deployed to the region, as he gently puts it, 3 more times. Every deployment became more and more difficult, when would it end. I thank God for watching over him and keeping him safe. Who would of thought that the little kid with the nice tie would grow up to be Colonel Monarez, kicking ass serving our country with pride and helping destroy the terroristic network of Al-Qaida, bringing Osama Bin Ladan to the only justice that was appropriate, death. Colonel Monarez is not only my brother, but he is my hero. The sacrifices he, and all those in our military have made for our country, will never be forgotten. Thank you to all those who serve and have served, and especially you Colonel Monarez, love you!!!!!
