9/17/14-Thought for the day... The 8th Commandment may seem straight to the point. Exodus 20:15 says, You shall not steal Our laws are set to help protect peoples personal property. Gods law goes further than just stealing personal property. Leviticus 19:11-13 God tells us, Do not steal. Do not lie. Do not deceive one another. Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the Lord. Do not defraud your neighbors or rob them. Do not hold back the wages of a hired worker overnight. Sometimes we do things without thinking it is stealing in Gods eyes. When we put off bills, God sees it as stealing. If we tear up something that doesnt belong to us and dont tell them or replace it, its stealing. If we illegally wire our house for cable or satellite, if we pad our expense account, if we buy a big screen TV just to watch the Super Bowl and return it the next day, if we use our work time for personal business, it is stealing in Gods eyes. We know that robbing someone is stealing, but do we really think about how we act towards others can steal from them, as well. If we lie about someone and it causes people to think differently of them, then we are robbing that person of their virtues. If we falsely accuse someone of a crime and they go to jail, we have robbed them of their life or a portion of their life, if we tell someone we will be there at a certain time and they have been waiting long past that time, we robbed them of their time. There are many examples. When you think of the 8th Commandment, keep in mind stealing goes far beyond just personal property that God wants us to avoid. God Bless you all~Bill
