9/1984: Winschoten 100km - 7h02 10/1984: Edmund Fitzgerald 100k - 7h04 You ask how I was able to run both races that hard and that close together. I trained very hard over a long period of time and had built up a good base so that I could recover easier in between races. I was not alone in this training and nearly all my training was done on paved roads. I would average about 150 miles a week of training. This is why I advocate that new runners take a longer time to build up a good base and forget about the I want to run long races right now. You need to build a good base over a period of time and then go into the longer runs physically ready and have some success and also make your career last longer. I have been running marathons and longer plus many races less than the marathon for over 42 years and I am still running them in my 70s. It is a great sport and the better prepared you are the more enjoyable it will be and the longer you will last in it. Wishing you all a very long and successful life of running and that you enjoy it as much as I have. Thank you, Frank :) * See full caption in the 1st comment.
