9/22/2013 the south side of Shenzhen felt barren once you took leave for 10 or 20 bus stops. flats were more opened, less organized, stores with unfamiliar name specialized on noddle jelly. it was not well grown as metropolitan cities supposed to be, yet young people kept flowing in from different part of mainland. i always asked bystanders.: where to go? Where to shop? where to have my hair cut? these were the questions i wrote for features in magazine years ago. it felt dejected to do so, i insisted though. sz was a city of duckweed that none of the people i asked were locals. its always somewhere else, and they asked me too. when i said where i’m from they would said oh it’s a good place, how people ran business, such such. i would said it’s only for people who stayed there. 9/27/2013 mr. fang said come in have a look. i had a bag of stuff hang in my arm, so i went in. it was a small bakery with only a few rows of breads. theres a tv showing drama on top of the rack. i looked through the breads and picked a couple each priced at 2-3. theres also mooncakes but i already bought. i went to pay my breads and was about to leave. suddenly at a glance i saw theres tea set on a side table near baking site. i asked if their teas free. mr. fang was a little suprised. he turned to look to his tea set, said, oh, thats only for ourselves. 9/28/2013 would you like some tea? mr.fang asked. yes, im very thirsty. i said. i had strolled around this south market for several hours, and was so happened to run into thiis small narrowed street while looking for my bus back. south market was on the opposite of boulvard. mr.fang invited me to sit on his low stool and started clearing out his teapot. i thought he can give me any tea. what tea do you like? mr.fang said. what what tea? i thought. i never know what tea we had at home. what business do you do? he turned to bring a small pack of tea leaves from refrige. oh...no, not really. i said. it was first time i ever heard of such a term. i had it in my mind these a few years though. i always come here to shop. i said.
