9/7/2014. Jay Shri Krishna Surrender means acquisition of the virtues that help realization and renunciation of the attributes that hinder the realization. Surrender does not just mean your decision that you have surrendered. It must come into your actions. It can’t be a part-time job. It is a full time service. It is your agenda. It is blue print of your life. Your every decision and action must inevitably be as per the agenda. Your surrender is for a purpose. You want freedom, liberty, total emancipation, the Moksha. Now Moksha is a result and not a process. Result can be attained only when proper way is followed and efficient and devotional efforts are put in. surrender is a process. Before taking up any action you must verify whether it is as per your set agenda or not? There are certain things which if adopted will expedite the realization. The main is Knowledge. Lord Krishna in Gita set the parameters of wisdom. They are humility, nonviolence, tolerance, simplicity, reverence for elders, cleanliness, steadfastness, self-control and renunciation of worldly affairs. So seeker must imbibe these qualities which will help attain the realization. Where as he must shun certain attributes which hinder the realization; these are: hypocrisy, ego, pride, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness, lust, greed, attachment, envy and pretention. While taking up any activity, the intellect must verify whether that activity promotes the virtues? If yes then only he should take up the activity. He must also verify whether the activity becomes instrumental in bringing in the attributes that hinder the realization, and if so the seeker must at once resign from taking up that activity. So this requires wakefulness and mindfulness at every step. Every promoting activity will help you climb the ladder step by step, where as hindering attributes may cause steep fall to ground. Your upward progress is gradual and very slow, it goes step by step. But your down ward journey may be so sudden, that if you made a single mistake, it may bring you to ground zero in one stride. Your sole aim in life must be realization. You have no self indulged desire for any activity, you are taking up activity because it helps you attain the realization. So you must be lust less, desire less person. Shruti says: अमृतत्वं समाप्नोति यदा कामात्प्रमुच्यते। (Amrutatvam samapnoti yadaa kamatpramuchyate). You attain the Realization when all desires are shun. Now we know that the total surrender is not just intention. But surrender means acquisition of the virtues that help realization and renunciation of the attributes that hinder the realization. May God bless you.
