9.9.2013 The Jungle Lore: Part: V The Man-eater of Govindagarh On hearing the killing of Yuwatiya of Budgauna, the then collector shri Aiyyar, along with other officials, who were already in Badhwar for the cement factory inauguration, visited the victim’s home and announced help of Rs 3,000 to the family. (pl. don’t measure the value of the aid from today’s value of the rupee). After this incidence, the tiger’s activity shifted to about 20-25 km away around villages Ramnagar and Gorsari. In this region, for the first time, a tigress with two cubs was seen. Here the man-eater’s casualties were two small boys from village Jerwa and man and a man from near the Koka dam. Thus, till February 14, 1987, in about one month, the tiger had killed more than eight people. Then on 18th February, message was received that a 12 year boy, Pappu, of Ramnagar, who had gone to the nearby forest to graze his goats, was dragged away in the broad-day-light at noon. His half-eaten remains were found the next day. This happened, as mentioned earlier, when the forest officers were screening the forest for over a week.
