9.The Offspring- They were famous during the grunge years, For a punk rock band, thats saying something. Dexters unique voice that made them thrive during the likes of red hot chili peppers and beastie boys and rage against the machine. Who were popular and doing fresh new things. Their first few albums were that upbeat guitar, fast paced drums, narly vocals and the woahhh or ohhh or hey hey hey backround vocals that made post punk rock so catchy and edgy at the same time. Their 5th album Americana was the bands most successful. But changed what the band use to be. Why Dont You Get a Job? was such an annoying song in my opinion I liked Pretty Fly For a White Guy. But it was so different. The band has always been goofy and silly. But there is no way you could take this seriously. The album itself was pretty good though. It was more of a pop punk, since that was the in thing then. Songs like Staring at the Sun and the Kids are Alright showed the band was still serious and can play that style. Their first album was with the times as well, which a was was occurring at the time. So the album was like political punk. Great songs like Jennifer Lost the War, Tehran, and Beheaded. The vocals were not as polished as later. Once they got to their 3rd album Smash. Who the band was and what they were all about was evident. That album has so many good songs. From slow to wild. Bad Habit, Gotta Get Away, Self Esteem, Genocide, and the most popular Come Out and Play Keep Em Separated. The next album Ixnay on the Hombre continued where the band left off. With I Choose, The Meaning of Life, Cool to Hate, All I Want and the perfectly sung ballad Gone Away. The follow up to Americana was Conspiracy off One. Which I think was an upgrade, as it was a faster, harder album. Songs like Come Out Swinging. Still having fun songs like Original Prankster. And as always, putting their heart on the line, with the song Want You Bad. Now their 7th album Splinter I thought was a masterpiece. Cuz it returned to that punk sound of the past but with the more mature vocals of Dexter. The bands original drummer was gone :( For this album only, they had a temp one, who I thought did very well for this style. Noodles, the guitarists best work, As their is a guitar solo in my favorite song by them, the hard rock sounding, quick song Cant Get My Head Around You. This album was hard hitting, dark, fast. Songs like Long Way Home, the Lightning Rod, the Noose, Never Gonna Find Me, Da Hui, and Race Against Myself. The light hearted songs were still their like Hit That. And their acoustic perfect song Spare Me the Details. Their 8th album Rise and Fall Rage and Grace, was a combo of all their works. As it had the catchy hits HammerHead and Youre Gonna Go Far Kid. The fast paced songs Half Truism and Trust In You. The amazing slow songs Kristy Are You Doing Okay?, Fix You and A Lot Like Me. And the fun silly songs Stuff Is Messed Up. Their 9th album, Days Go By, I was unsure of it with their first single being a slow one. Then when I heard there was a pretty fly for a white guy like song. I didnt know what Id think. But Cruising California Bumpin In My Trunk was so damn catchy and fun. Yes it seems dumb cuz a girl raps in it and the lyrics arent serious. But the way its presented, I couldnt help to love it. It had its fast songs like Secrets From the Underground and Turning Into You. Theyre silly and love songs continue, I Wanna Secret Family With You. And a re release of their old school song, Dirty Magic, idk why. I mean there has been a lot of songs that sounded similar but I think it just means they are good at what they do and continue to impress and live up to my standards. Yeah it is not the 90s anymore. For this day and age, its pretty damn good. Keep up the good work boys, Im looking forward to their new album next year! :)
