9 years ago today was a day Ill never forget. We were so excited and getting prepared for Mike to come home in the next few weeks. As I was trying to stay positive from not getting a phone call when I was expecting it, the fear was still in the back of my head. The next morning as Im getting ready for school, I received a call from Robert (which at the time I found odd for him to call so early). Then, I got a call from Mikes step-dad. Okay, now Im getting nervous and something is going on! Everything is running through my head. Is Mike trying to surprise me by coming home early? Did something happen? Am I just freaking out for no reason? Then I hear....knock knock knock. My heart is pounding so fast, I feel my blood rushing through my body. I look through the peep hole in the door.... This is so unreal. This is what you see in the movies. Not something that could happen to us! My sister Mindy opens the door for the 2 officers to come inside. They dont have to say a word - I already know why they are at my door but I cant believe it. The next 2 weeks was just the beginning of a horrible nightmare I was hoping to wake up from. Trying to plan a funeral when you loose someone you love and to make reality of all this has been one of the hardest things Ive ever had to do. Ive found peace in my heart bc my faith in God and knowing Mike was doing exactly what he wanted. He was such an amazing person! His smile was contagious! And his shenanigans always had you laughing! I want to thank everyone that was there for me and to our community for showing so much respect and honor. I miss you and love you so much Mike. I think of you every day and you will never be forgotten! Until we meet again.... RIP Sgt. Michael Stokely
