90 years since the first UK / New Zealand two way radio contact via amateur radio. Radio amateurs discovered the possibility of communicating around the world wirelessly. Everyone takes mobile phones for granted. Without radio amateurs none of this or the internet would be possible. Heres a link to BBC Todays report on a recreation of that first contact in 1924. WithThe 2SZ/ ZL4AA link up went out live on Radio 4 this morning. Hear it here with Dave Lawley G4BUO who describes himself as a radio amateur!!! bbc.co.uk/programmes/p028xhj4 Ironically the link up with Radio Wales was a bit of a non-starter. Both the Skype link and mobile phone link to Cardiff went down - but we still managed New Zealand on 20 and 80 on good old shortwave!
