9th November, 2014. Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), Lagos, Nigeria. Attention: Tony Attah, Managing Director. RE: UPDATE ON SNEPCo BONGA OIL SPILL AND THE AFFECTED SHORELINE COMMUNITIES, SATELLITE VILLAGES AND FISHERPERSONS IN BAYELSA, DELTA AND ONDO STATES. Recall SNEPCo Post Impact Assessment (PIA) report which states that the ecological resources servicing the shoreline communities, satellite villages and fisherpersons were impacted by SNEPCo Bonga oil spill of 20th December 2011 and the harmful chemical dispersants used by SNEPCo to fragment and/or disperse the spilled oil at the sea where the communities, satellite villages and fisherpersons carry out fishing activities. Also recall SNEPCo refusal to comply with the Nigerian Laws especially the oil spill laws and regulations as well as SNEPCo refusal to implement the resolution and/or directives of the Federal House of Representatives that SNEPCo should provide palliatives and pay damages to the victims as a result of the negative effects of the said pollutants after joint dialogue meetings between the representatives of NOSDRA, NIMASA, DPR, SNEPCo and the victims at the National Assembly , Abuja between January 2012 and September 2014. In view of the above and since SNEPCo have not done anything to hunger and illnesses caused by the said pollutants till date, SNEPCo and all its allied as well as other oil and oil companies operating within shore and offshore of the Nigerian Coast are by this medium advised to evacuate all their staffs and also stop their activities within the said areas as from 12th November 2014 pending peaceful resolution of the issue under reference (provision of palliatives/relief materials and payment of damages to the victims). YOUR FAITHFULLY, EBIOWEI MENDIBIO FOR THE VICTIMS
