A $1 MILLION DOLLAR prize was the award given to Dr. Sugata Mitra - TopicsExpress

A $1 MILLION DOLLAR prize was the award given to Dr. Sugata Mitra from TED for this stunning study undertaken across many remote communities in India. Developing country leaders should ALL be paying very very close attention to the logic and results of studies like this. We are often under-resourced, with a commensurate high demand for actual, practical knowledge and training. 21st century learning holds tremendous LEAPFROG potential for developing countries and our disconnected/impoverished communities, but only if we develop an ethos of human capital awareness. There is tremendous talent and potential available in the self-organizing (complexity) dynamics of social learning/networked learning. We should be taking advantage of the latest discoveries of our era about how people learn, instead of continuing our wholesale indoctrination into the bogus capital-heavy, brick-overloaded, embezzlement-friendly, propaganda-ready, construction projects we insist on calling schools and universities. The challenge we face is development, making, learning, training, education, not ... school. When we get that, well be better for it. The lessons to be learned here dont just apply to INDIA. They apply to Nigeria, Pakistan, Indonesia, Detroit, Baltimore, New Orleans, and any other places where UNDERPRIVILEGED COMMUNITIES suffer the kind of neglect that comes remoteness. NOTE the 2 kinds of REMOTENESS (including social and economic remoteness) Dr. Mitra describes starting at the 1:16 mark. ted/talks/sugata_mitra_shows_how_kids_teach_themselves
