A 17-year-old p-plate driver was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition this morning after a horror crash in Sydney’s west. The girl’s small sedan collided with a large B-double semi-trailer at the intersection of Swallow Drive and Skylark Crescent in Erskine Park at about 10am. CareFlight’s rapid response trauma team were on the scene within 15 minutes of being called in by NSW Ambulance, landing in nearby Peppertree Reserve. Emergency services, including police, Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance worked for about 30 minutes to free the girl from the crushed car before she was placed in a road ambulance. The CareFlight doctor conducted several procedures to treat critical head and chest injuries on route to hospital, including placing her in an induced coma and onto a ventilator.
