A 1981 BUICK SKYLARK and BEING FAITHFUL When I was 17, my parents were VERY generous with me and gave me their 1981 blue Buick Skylark - two tone with a dark, faux leather top. Cassette deck (not 8-track) and plush velour seats. That thing was AWESOME! Okay, so it had some rust and it had a spot where we had to do some bondo work to fill in, but in my mind, she was a BEAUTY. And I took care of her that way. I would wash, vacuum, and wax her like she was a vintage corvette! I took care of that car pretty well, enough so that later, my parents were even MORE GENEROUS and got me a brand new Pontiac Sunbird (the Skylark was taken out in an accident that my dad got into - yes, much sadness...dad was fine BTW). My point being that I proved my ability to take care of and maintain the Skylark, thus, I was given the greater responsibility of a brand new car. I sometimes wonder in life if Im asking for the Sunbird, before Ive taken care of the Skylark. Do I often ask God for MORE, when I havent been faithful with what Hes already given me? Whether its leadership, financial, or resources, MORE isnt always better, its often more complicated. If my ability to STEWARD my time, talent and resources is not able to handle what I currently have, could that be the reason why God is maybe waiting to ENTRUST ME with MORE? I think of the parable of the 3 servants that Jesus told: “The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money. (Matthew 25:16-18 NLT) Ultimately, the ones who received five and two were given MORE because they were FAITHFUL with what they have been given. The one with one bag, didnt use what he had wisely, and was even punished for this. QUESTION: ARE YOU BEING FAITHFUL WITH WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN? Instead of simply asking for more, consider giving your ALL with what you have been given and trust that God is giving you EXACTLY what you can handle right now. Today is an opportunity to take a step in the direction of FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP of your time, talents and treasure. What is the FIRST THING that comes to mind? Act on that today.
