A 20-YEAR-OLD unemployed man of Sangre Grande charged with house breaking and larceny was placed on a bond in the sum of $5,000 to keep the peace for three years after he pleaded guilty to the charges and begged a magistrate for a non- custodial sentence. Caleb Torreys of Barath Lane, Mandillion Road, Sangre Grande had his request granted when he appeared before Magistrate Michelle Maharajh-Brown in the Sangre Grande First Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with House Breaking and Larceny. The charges were laid by Kishan Sankar of Sangre Grande CID. Torreys stood before Maharajh-Brown and immediately pleaded guilty after she read the charges to him. Court prosecutor Ag Sgt Nicholas Ramdeen in giving evidence said that on October 06, the victim Kurt Joseph secured his house at Kowlessar Trace in Coalmine and went away for a few days. Joseph returned on October 13 and discovered his house had been broken into and further checks revealed his 24” flat screen television set missing. Torreys was later arrested and charged by PC Kishan Sankar. The accused told Magistrate Maharajh-Brown he has a substance abuse problem and begged not to be sent to prison, promising to enter rehab. Maharajh-Brown after a stern lecture on the need to respect other people’s property, granted the accused man his wish and placed him on a bond in the sum of $5,000 to keep the peace for the next three years.
