A 2012 study found that about two-thirds of primary care doctors harbor biases toward their African-American patients, leading those doctors to spend less time with their black patients and involve them less in medical decisions. its not just about access: its about empathy (or the lack thereof). this is just one reason why getting more black and brown folks into healthcare professions is crucial. it only only increases the likelihood of getting a doctor that looks like you, but also exposes students in healthcare fields to a larger variety of classmates, which can help increase empathy.
