A 25-year-old man from eastern Chinese city of Suzhou was found dead in his room on Saturday morning in front of his TV set, which was still airing a football match from the World Cup 2014. According to rt, he had reportedly stayed up for days’ to watch the opening matches of the 2014 World Cup taking place in Brazil, which is 11 hours behind China. The matches first started at 6am Chinese local time and he man reportedly refused to sleep for days in order not to miss any of the World Cup action. It is believed that the last game the man watched was Netherlands-Spain (5-1) match. A tweet by China Xinhua News (@XHNews) on June 17, it said: At least three Chinese football fans have reportedly died after staying up to watch the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He was taken to the People’s Hospital of Xiangcheng where doctors ruled that his death was related to and partly but not solely caused by sleep deprivation. Doctors have cautioned football fans about the health risks involved in staying up overnight to watch their favourite sport, as this is not the first time such a case has happened. Chinese man Jiang Xiaoshan died from exhaustion after staying up every night to watch the European Cup in 2012. - Stomp Straits Times
