A 26-year-old woman will spend Christmas behind bars after pleading guilty to a range of theft and fraud offences at Sheffield Crown Court. Rebecca Kerrigan, of Spinkhill Road, Sheffield pleaded guilty to four counts of fraud by false representation, five counts of shoplifting, six counts of theft from person and one count of possessing a Class B drug, when she appeared on Thursday 4 December. She was jailed for 18 months. Kerrigan would target unsuspecting men on nights out in Sheffield city centre, in some circumstances befriending them and gaining their trust and in others, watching as they withdrew money from cash machines. She would then obtain their PIN and bank cards, stealing money from their accounts. She was arrested after officers recognised her in CCTV images. Police Constable Andrew Woodruff, who lead the investigation into a number of Kerrigan’s crimes, added: “As well as stealing from individuals, Kerrigan has also admitted stealing from a number of local businesses in Sheffield, taking items from their store with no intention of paying. “Victims of any theft are often left feeling vulnerable and exposed, and I hope that this sentencing brings them some relief knowing that she is now behind bars.” Detective Constable Patrick Allerton, who also investigated a number of offences, said: “I am pleased to say we have a prolific thief off our streets in time for Christmas. “Kerrigan has repeatedly preyed on members of the public enjoying a night out off their guard, stealing in some cases hundreds of pounds from them.”
