A BETTER WAY A full review of the Education system in Northern - TopicsExpress

A BETTER WAY A full review of the Education system in Northern Ireland could result in significant savings being achieved on a sector wide basis. Has there been an assessment of the scope for making savings within the Education Resources budget, without taking money directly from frontline services? We believe that more resources should be directly delegated to schools, enabling Boards of Governors to make decisions in the best interests of their schools. Earmarked funding should end, as advocated by Sir Robert Salisbury. We would query the need for additional funding to be allocated to Targeting Social Needs and other Department initiatives in the current climate. How can Shared Education projects, costing around £40 million, be considered to be a priority, in the context of possible frontline job losses of 2500 which will affect the future education of all pupils? What savings are to be made from the amalgamation of the five existing Education & Library Boards and have these been factored into the budget allocation? Are further economies of scale to be gained from implementing the criteria for “sustainable schools” and appropriately sized Sixth Form provision, as advocated by Sir Robert Salisbury?
