A BIRTHDAY TRIBUTE TO QPHS-c LIVING LEGEND, OUR LEADER, THE LEAD ORGANIZER OF QPHS-c GRAND ALUMNI HOMECOMING FOR BATCH 1970-1980 & LATER YEARS.... MR RODING AFOS !!! GREETINGS OF PEACE ! GOOD MORNING TO MY FELLOW QPHSIANS ! Most of you know my feeling on birthdays. As a chair of the membership committee, I should know all my members here including their birthdays. Postings, greetings, thats all common to us. Whats the big deal? By the time youve had over thirty, there should be a cease & desist order against them. So, why this birthday tribute to a friend, our leader and the lead organizer of our homecoming? Its not to celebrate the inevitable passage of time but something more. Everyone has birthdays but not everyone is our friend - Roding Afos. Batch Roding, you are unique, and today Im gladly putting aside my grumbles about birthday postings, cakes, presents and silly hats to honor you ! Batch, youve reached a milestone, (will not mention your age hehe..) but thats a whole lot of living. Enough to establish the character of a man, to know who he is, and Ive known you through about that. Your remarkable combination of intellectual thoughness, personal gentleness & compassion, an impish sense of humor, and a strong streak of concern to others informs everything you do. But seriously folks, aside from his lamentable quirks of character, batch Roding is a friend. A real one. Hes there when you need him-offering practical advice on just about everything, from how to unblock the drains to how to meet personal tragedy with courage, & he is not a mere theorist who has read the books. HE WALKS HIS TALK AND WALKS IT TALL I know hes shy about having his good deeds displayed in public. A less kind person might say thats because if everybody knew just how helpful he could be, hed be called upon all the time. But I know better. Hes modest. However on this occasion, Im going to ignore his finer feelings. This is a public celebration and batch Roding youve been outed ! (only for today batch) I thought it would be great to list all the personal and lovable qualities we admire about him. I asked a few thru private messaging and I had a couple of offers, neither was the type of thing I had in mind. So I was forced to think of myself. I value your opinion. I value the way we can agree or disagree and still count each as friends. I admire your humor & humility. Then theres your persistence which some might call stubborness. I could go on but because I want to preserve whats left of our friendship, I myself wont. At some time, during the peak of our best years, there was no chance for long chats & conversations. While Im busy establishing my career in Manila, you were also busy with your political career in Abra. You were never aware...but Ive been watching you closely, careerwise. Even now that you almost forgot your political career.. you are still loved by many. why? Because you have made a great impact to your constituents during your term as a public servant of Lapaz. Maximizing strengths and minimizing weaknesses were your essential character as a public servant, committed to public service and possess self-confidence, honesty & integrity. You have instituted a governance for the common good, for the protection, safety, prosperity & happiness of your constituents, and not for your profit, honor or private interest. In conclusion, wherever you are now alumni, please raise your glasses to our friend Roding, our leader, the leader of this journey, to friendship and to birthdays ! May you have many more. Lastly, I wish my batchmate a simple human happiness. I wish him harmony that comes when all the components of life are balanced; I wish him a year full of pleasant little trifles and joys that gives one strength to make great achievements and reach ones goal. TO A DEAR FRIEND...AND MY BEST BATCH OF CLASS 1971...HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!
