A BLABBER ABOUT MY COMPLICATED HISTORY WITH WRITING: Before I - TopicsExpress

A BLABBER ABOUT MY COMPLICATED HISTORY WITH WRITING: Before I really started drawing, and almost a decade before I started taking art seriously and considering it as a career, I read and wrote a LOT. As soon as I learned how to, I did it all the time. My first major book read was The Man in the Iron Mask. I read most of the literature classics in pocket book form (probably abridged), entire series of books like Hardy Boys, R.L. Stine, etc. And I wrote stories and even started several novels on my old dads old typewriter. I filled out lots of notebooks with ideas, stories, diaries, all kinds of stuff. Occasionally I would doodle in the margins (which morphed into me wanting to create visuals for all my stories). By the time I was 16, I switched over to drawing full-time and kinda left writing behind, feeling like I could only do one or the other (wish I hadnt gotten that idea in my head). I had people basically tell me that too. Writers cant be artists. Stick to drawing. Silly thing to say. I was writing before I was an artist anyway. Still Id written a lot of shorts and started a lot of novels and had a head full of ideas. But, Id also gotten recognition for my drawing and had trouble getting anyone to read my writing and it made me nervous to share it anyway. After drawing professionally for a few years (in my early 20s), my love of writing wouldnt stay shoved in the filing cabinet and I finally unleashed it. Within a few years, and thanks to events like NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) I wrote 4 novels in just a couple of years and a whole bunch of short stories. Id even written a few graphic novels and comic series and started drawing them. I got very discouraged when a computer crash (and not backing up) caused me to lose all of the pages Id been working on. Major set back on the comics front. But I kept writing novels. Shortly after that, though, I met my wonderful wife and her son (who was 3 at the time) and became a family man a few months later as we moved in together. I had to make some serious money to pay the bills. Again I pushed writing down into the filing cabinet and made art and more art and piled on deadlines to make ends meet and eventually get ahead. That was almost 10 years ago now. Ive barely done anything with my novels, shorts, or ideas... UNTIL NOW! Im finally, slowly, but surely putting my writing and ideas to use. With the help of Patreon, an ongoing crowdfund site, and my wonderful subscribers, Im starting to illustrate comics Ive written, edit novels I wrote, and release them digitally. Im also developing ideas that have been desperate to get out of my head for SOOO many years. So, if you made it through this rant, and care about my complicated history but still strong passion for writing, Id greatly appreciate you pledging to and sharing my campaign to help me make writing a more full-time and fulfilling part of my life. Help me keep it from getting shoved back into the filing cabinet! :D For more information and to see some of the stories Im working on, please go here --> Patreon/RayDillon Thank you!! ~RAY
