A BLOT ON THE LANDSCAPE! MY FIRST DAY OF 2015. After editing my non-fiction novel for a few hours, I decided to do my twice weekly mountain bike ride. I eventually reached the National Commonwealth Track and the most amazing thing happened… Sun showers. The temperature was around 30 degrees centigrade. Crystal clear, azure sky overhead and hardly any clouds. The sun was glowing and beginning to gently plunge into the tree tops. Just before the rain fell, in huge drops, there was a forewarning. The dust and rain mixed in the atmosphere to create that recognisable pre-rain smell that I recall as a child in Romania on really hot days. I once experienced this in Africa, too. Anyway, I cycled up a steep incline of about 400–500 meters, several times (called Trig Point). After this I cycled up another hill called, “The Mother” and quite rightly so. This incline was even steeper still. Managed it… but only just. When I finished I stood proudly at the top and took a selfie. Not my usual thing, but hey, it’s 2015, I thought. It was then that I noticed something peculiar. Quite Dali-esque in fact. There was a sofa on top of the hill. Someone had carried it there for the New Year celebration. Shame they didn’t have the decency to take it back down again. They left it there as a Blot on the Landscape. However, all in all a very good day, other than the damned Australian flies that tried their hardest to fly into my mouth when I was cycling☺
