A BOOK TO BE CELEBRATED: Wisdom of the Land (iTaukei title: Na Vuku ni Vanua) a publication by the Institute of Indigenous Studies Fiji is finally out. It is described by contributors Ratu Semi Seruvakula and Mr. Emitai Boladuadua as being about: about the iTaukei culture and traditions, stories, legends, histories, cultural knowledge, and measures we can use to protect our culture, heritage and language. Such initiatives are part of the battle to document and provide platforms for both safeguarding and practice; however, our responsibility is to show support by actually purchasing the book. FJ$30 for a copy is reasonable given the money we commit to telephone and internet credit on an annual basis. Indigenous writing will not survive unless we begin buying the books, reading and talking about them and this is a fine forum for it to occur. Given it is a book and will last many years in our homes, this is a worthwhile investment. The team of writers is to be congratulated and supported.
