A BRIEF LOOK AT THE RESPONSES FROM THE GOVERNORSHIP ASPIRANT OF PLATEAU STATE UNDER THE ALL PROGRESSIVE CONGRESS [APC] Rt. Hon Barr. Simon Bako Lalong Born: 5th May, 1963, Attended RCM primary School Shendam 1977 GSS Shendam 1982 School of Preliminary Studies (IJMB) 1986 Nigeria Law School, call to Bar 1991 NYSC with FCDA Abuja 1991-1992 Private Law Practice with Theresa Obot & Co *Plateau State House of Assembly 1999 *Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly 2000-2006 Chairman, Nigerian Conference of Speakers 2001-2002 Principal Partner, Simon Lalong &Co 2007- date 1. Lalong ON Human Capital Development: He consider HCD to be Paramount in his government. Workers will be rewarded appropriately. 2. Bar. Lalong spoke about upgrade of hospitals and spreading development all around the state and not just a part or segment of the state. 3. On Agriculture: Barr. Lalong asked questions on why PADP among others arent working . So, he promised to revive them. We have not seen any progress from ASTC. We will improve on PADP and move to mechanised agriculture by Gods grace. 4. On Sport: Bar. Lalong - A sport institute will be built to build the youths. Employment can be created for the youths if tourism is developed. 5. On Debt: The debt profile of Plateau State is over 100bn and the IGR of the state is tied to this debt 6. On Education: Barr. Lalong - We have are passionate about education. *We will make existing schools and institutions work. We will send students abroad to study on scholarship in special areas and we will do more by Gods grace. *Local Governments Will also support and more effort by his government on the area of scholarship *We will provide scholarship for plateau citizens in specialised field -LALONG *We will borrow a leaf from what is obtainable in other states. Osun State and other states 2 encourage youth employment. 8.Tourism & Hospitality: Barr. Lalong. *Our state is blessed. Theres no need to travel out of the state for seminars when we can develop tourism and do it here. *We cannot be talking of tourism when there is no peace and unity of purpose in government/governance. *Peace and Unity of purpose will be made Paramount as it forms a foundation to every meaningful development. - Barr Lalong 9. Participation of Civil Society Organisations: Barr. Lalong - The role of CSOs will be allowed to thrive. We will created room for rule of law and constitutionality and an all inclusive government. 10. CHILDS RIGHT AND THE PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED: Barr. Lalong - *The child right law should be implemented side by side, that of the disabled *We will make sure the law is passed as well as establish an agency to cater for the disabled. 11. WOMEN: On women empowerment, Barr. Lalong emphasized the need to develop women and youth centers in Plateau State which our government is. Committed to seeing to its success. The autonomy of the arms of government should be encouraged which will further developed the local centers. - Barr. Lalong Additional Points: While as Chairman, Conference of Speakers, I fought for d autonomy of judges because I believe it is important 4 dem 2 deliver Justice. 12. APPOINTMENT: In times of appointment, there must be a geographical spray across the entire states, no Local Govt. Will dominate in any ministry; which is bad for democracy and good governance. -Barr. Lalong Barr. Lalong said he will embrace everyone that have contested elections with him. He likes and encourage all who wish Plateau state well to avail themselves to serve the state under his government as he believe its time for change and Plateau people are ready for this change by Gods grace. Barr. Lalong promise to send GNS and Hirse to represent Plateau state elsewhere as he believe they be of servuce to the state at the end of the day. Finally, A Peace Pact was signed by the participants as well as organizers of the debate and representativesof religious organizations and CSOs in the state among others. BARR. LALONG, Before signing the document containing terms of the pact, threw a challenge to all who are planning to to Rig elections to desist from such illegality and evil act, he added that it will be only proper that the peace agreement/pact should include a clause that forbade RIGGING of elections which has tendencies of causing avoidable rancor and reactions that are capable of bridging peace.
