A #Bapolwe! STATE WITNESS NARRATES ENCOUNTER WITH THABO MASILO A state witness in a case in which Thabo Masilo is facing charges of rape and robbery has told the Village Magistrate Court in Gaborone that he saw a horrific scene when he arrived at his house in the afternoon of August 09, 2012. Giving evidence on May 28, Mr Cyrus Longwe said upon his arrival at his Phase 4 house, the gate was open and he sensed that something was wrong because his sister who had stayed behind with his younger son did not come over to open the gate and door as usual. Mr Longwe, who had come for lunch and was in the company of his wife, said he bolted out of the car and headed straight for the door which was ironically locked. Fortunately, he had a spare key which he used to unlock the door and upon entering, he was met by blood that was all over the floor and on the walls in the living room. The house was abnormally too quiet and eerie, he said, adding, “as I was going through the corridor, I came face to face with the accused, Thabo Masilo. I gripped him with his wrists and asked him what he was doing in my house and who he was. He failed to answer any of my questions except that his lips only moved because he realised that he had been caught,” the witness told the court. Led by state prosecutor from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mr Kutlo Tsekane, Mr Longwe further said he immediately lost temper and fought the assailant who had a bloodied knife in his hands. According to Mr Longwe, who is a businessman, the five-minute episode ended when Masilo managed to free himself and escaped through the kitchen door. He also said they called the police who arrived at the house just after members of the G4s security who were called in by neighbours had arrived. Unfortunately Masilo had escaped and the sister was found in a pool of blood naked with the boy standing next to her bed. The victim was rushed to Julia Molefe Clinic with knife stabs in the head and face, which left her bleeding profusely. She was later taken to Princes Marina Hospital where she underwent an x-ray and was released the following morning. She is currently under medication because of the injuries, the court heard. Mr Longwe said since he had the mental picture of Masilo, he saw him in the newspapers and television bulletin after he had allegedly been caught in Phase IV after murdering a school girl in November of the same year. He came forward to the police in the company of his sister and told the police that the accused was the one who had intruded in his house and injured her sister in August 2012. He also said Masilo at the time of the intrusion was putting on a hat similar to the one he was putting on at court. Cross examination is expected today, May 30. Masilo is represented by attorney Mr Kgosietsile Ngakaagae.
