A Battle Between a Tiger and a Mouseling Plea for justice to Jannati Jannati is of no blood relation to me. As a businesswoman, I have met only a very few people, who come to be my real friends, throughout my career life. I have seen a very small amount of businesspeople, who think of how the worsening economic situation of our country can be solved politically. As if the only aim is to overcome all obstacles and make piles of earned money. The fact that, our country can be lead towards success with a sensible and well- thought business initiative can sound very amusing. Jannati, at the age 23, is someone who’s exceptional. This girl works the hardest all day and studies and reads and thinks. She runs a car transforming and modifying company. She paints cars and breaks the steel and rods herself, which is why she can’t claim the lavishness of manicures. She established 4 organizations in the last 6 years. Cars are what her passion is. That’s why she’s also the editor of a magazine which features about cars and motors. Jannati’s many different qualities have amazed me many a times. I have had chats with her one or two times. She told me that her dream for the future was to manufacture cars in our country. I have my love for hard wares, and thus I came to love Jannati too. On the last 11th of July, Jannati and her friend Mustamseer Shubhro fell victim to a car accident, while they were travelling to Dhanmondi from Uttara. Jannati was driving Shubhro’s car. Shubhro gets badly injured as the car’s breaks fail and hits parked police van. After Shubhro is immediately rushed to Ayesha Memorial Hospital by Jannati and the police officers there, he was announced dead by the doctors. The police files a case for the accident on the day after. Jannati is sent to jail. On 21st July at C.M.M court, Shubhro’s father accuses Jannati of murdering him and says that Jannati is guilty of carrying out a planned murder on her friend and also business partner, Mustamseer Shubhro. This accusation is also put on her father, her two younger brothers of age 12 and 18 and also her to-be-husband, Raymen. And to be the witnesses of this incident, 5 of the government’s influential people including another 15 people, take the stand. Jannati’s father was not in the country. Her mother, Shakeela Hossain, breaks down and becomes completely aimless. Jannati’s middle-class family has no kind of political links or anyone to give them any kind of help. A desperate, support seeking mother, for her daughter in jail. A month later on facebook, Jannati’s mother, requests her friend to stand by her. I contacted her. And then I heard and saw. A show going on. The fight between a tiger and a mouseling. In the meantime, The Lower Court doesn’t hear the continuous requests for Jannati’s bail. The bail is grantable. However, the law can be manipulated. I asked aunty to know whether she contacted Shubhro’s family. She broke out in to suppressed tears. “I didn’t leave anything out. My daughter reads in North South University. Her businesses were growing marvelously. She has intelligence, talent, conscience and well-read knowledge. I raised her with my own two hands. A bright and a beautiful life was waiting for her. Why on earth, would she even think about killing her own dearest friend? Shubhro’s was angry at Jannati from the very beginning, because his son refused to do a government job and instead chose to do business with her. “ Jannati is now in jail. I went to visit her the other day. She said to me, “ Apu, buy me the Penal Code book and please have it sent. I want to read it to find out, how anyone can falsely blame me of this crime” I went home and cried in discreet for quite a while. Jannati’s family, friends and relatives are going to do a humanitarian chain stand in front of Press Club on 10 o’ clock. To claim justice for Jannati. Her loved ones wanted to confirm that, Jannati is not going to fall in to the hands of the manipulated and controlled law. I am going to stand by her side. Some of us are here for her.
