A CALL FROM MY MOM Yesterday my brother was with my mom as my dad was at the doctors. He told me my mom was having a great day, then my mom gets on the phone and we talked for over an hour. Later in the evening my mom called me once again and we talked again for over an hour. She talked about some meat the butcher from the store they shop at had smoked for them. She asked how many pounds of meat do we use for a dinner service on the streets. I told her about 40 -50 #s right now. She said her and my dad are going to have him smoke aleast that much for us and donate it for our Friday night dinner. For those who dont know my mom has Parkinsons and has had hospice for over a year now. My mom hasnt been able to hold a conversation for years. That has been one of the hardest struggles in my life. My mother and I have always been close and we usually would talk everyday. People ask me all the time, why do I do the things I do. My whole life my mother has been my example of true compassion for others. Growing up with 3 brothers and 3 sisters we didnt have a lot of extra things but I always remembered my mother helping other families with groceries and clothes. I remember Saturdays mornings going to homes of minority families that worked for the company my dad did and taking them food and clothes as well as some missions and food pantries. My mother taught me how to live by faith and live a debt free lifestyle. How the little we have becomes much when we put it in Gods hands. I remember when I was in grade school and heard of a need of a christian organization. I told my mom I wanted to go the bank and give them my money from my savings account. She took me to the bank and allowed me to take all the money out and send it to them. Never quenching my spirit but always allowing me to be lead by the spirit. My parents taught me the value of hard work. When I turned 16 my parents took me to the car dealership and allowed me to buy a brand new car. No they didnt buy it for my, I paid cash for it. Many people havent been blessed to have grown up in a family like mine and to have parents who have encouraged them like mine did. To honor God and my parents is why I do what I do. Bringing hope to the Hurting. I was blessed to have such a great time with my mom on the phone yesterday and it caused me to remember my roots and where I came from and how no matter who we are we can make a difference. We live in a world of hurting people. People who maybe just need an encouraging word, a hug or to see your smile. Go be a blessing and make a difference in someones life today. TOGETHER WE CAN CHANGE OUR WORLD ONE PERSON AT A TIME.
