A CHARIOT WHICH NO LONGER ROLLS ... Naazir babus rath at Chetla - TopicsExpress

A CHARIOT WHICH NO LONGER ROLLS ... Naazir babus rath at Chetla , Calcutta is unique , because the mythological paintings on its body still survive unaltered . Possibly painted by a Kalighat patua in the early years of 1900s , these paintings document a time of transition -- when Kalighat style was going extinct and lithographs flooding the commercial market . The signature of the now forgotten artist is still intact ! But the celebrations of rathayatra has long stopped and the structure is in advanced stage of decay . This is one of the most beutifully intact wooden chariots of Bengal . Hoping that the family realises its value and take steps to preserve it .
