A CHEERY HOLIDAY CHESTNUT: My friend and fellow vocalist Mel - TopicsExpress

A CHEERY HOLIDAY CHESTNUT: My friend and fellow vocalist Mel Tormé wrote this enduring yuletide ditty, The Christmas Song, in collaboration with songwriter Robert Wells in 1944. The pair originally penned it during a sweltering summer as way to stay cool by thinking cool... and they wound up with a classic! Nat King Cole was the first of many to record the song, in early 1946, and he made it a huge hit; Mel himself did renditions in 1954, 1961, 1966 and 1992. I recorded this version for Signature Records in 1946. Merry Christmas Eve... and to all a Gnite! oxo, Monica (Video & graphic courtesy of Rafael Martinez)
