A CLOSE KNIT community in Penal was plunged into shock and mourning following the tragic news of a double-murder/suicide involving the wife of a doubles vendor and their two young children yesterday. Police believe Rawtee Linda Boodoo, 31, murdered her children Ashwaria, five, and 15-month- old Kristina by hanging them with ropes before taking her own life also by hanging at their Wilson Road, Clarke Road, Penal home. The three were found hanging from a rafter in an empty bedroom during the early morning hours by Rawtee’s common-law husband of seven years, Rennie Samaroo. Through his tears, the distraught father pleaded with parents not to vent their anger or frustration on the children. “If you hate me, do something to me then...but don’t do it to the children. Why did she have to turn on the children?” he cried. Samaroo, 44, a doubles vendor said by killing his children, “Rawtee take away my life from me even though I am still living.” He admitted that he and Boodoo argued several times during the hours before the killings. He admitted to Newsday that they have had a stormy relationship but, “things were just starting to settle down nicely for us.” Two months ago, Samaroo and his wife began making and selling doubles in the village. A police report revealed that at about 2 am, Boodoo awoke from sleep and realised his wife and daughters were not in their beds. He checked another room and made the gruesome discovery of his wife and two daughters dead, hanging from their necks. The police were called in and the bodies removed to the Forensic Science Centre where autopsies are expected to be carried out today. “She wanted to go out on Wednesday night and we ended up arguing. I went out to lime and cool my head. I came back home and we got into another argument and I left again,” Boodoo said, adding that when he returned home a third time, he went into the living room and sitting on a chair, fell asleep. “When I woke up, I went to the bedroom only to realise Rawtee was not there. The children were not in the room either and their mattress was missing,” Boodoo said. Starting to weep, he continued: “First when I went to the room everything looked normal and then I spotted my family hanging from ropes. I held on to the baby...spit was coming out her mouth. Rawtee why you punish them for? What will you tell God? What will be your punishment for those little children?” Boodoo’s relatives yesterday said that Rawtee was one who always kept her hurt, “bottled up inside her.” She hardly ever spoke about her problems,” a male relative said. Investi-gations are continuing
