A COLLECTION OF THE MOST COMPELLING QUOTES FROM YESTERDAYS FINAL SESSION AT San Jose Sharks HEADQUARTERS: RAFFI TORRES: Weve got to figure out what we want to do here. Do we want to be a team that lets it pass, and do the same thing over and over again? Or are we really going to get pissed off and come back, and see what were really all about? Yeah were going to win a lot of games next year, and probably going to make the playoffs again: but at the end of the day, if you dont show up and really want it, and really want to win, then its not going to happen. TODD MCLELLAN: We cant keep what we have. At least keep the same approach. So, something has to change and its two years in a row losing to that team, thats a good team too, let me make that very clear. Its two years in a row losing to that team and in fact when we thought we had improved our group, which I believe we did, we got a weaker performance than the year prior. DAN BOYLE: This is the first time Ive left my house since I got back after the game. Its definitely the worst loss of my career. And yeah, Im not going to get over this for a long time. This one hurts a lot. JOE THORNTON: The way we played in the first 3 games and then what we did in the last 4, its just mind-boggling. And I think i will lose sleep probably for the next couple months, for sure on that. LOGAN COUTURE: It [the sting of losing] may have gotten even worse. Its going to hurt for a while, probably all summer. This loss is pretty personal. Everyone on the outside doesnt see what we go through in this room. It was a long season to get where we were, and its probably the toughest loss that Ive ever gone through. MARC-EDOUARD VLASIC: Its tough, when youre watching. Knowing that you could have been out there, maybe making a difference to help your team win. DOUG WILSON: From our organization and to our fans: this is not a nick or a scratch, this is an open wound. The emotions are raw, the disappointment runs deep and should live for a long time. We have already started the process with what decisions were going to make. BRENT BURNS: You start concentrating on winning those physical battles a little too much, and forgetting about doing the things weve done all year to be successful with the puck. Its tough youve got to edge that line, find that line between being physical and getting the puck. PATRICK MARLEAU: It [the playoff exit] is going to be with us for a long time, so you have to use it as a motivational tool to get better an to learn from it. And to know that you never want to feel this way again. TOMMY WINGELS: Theres no excuse for it. I dont know whether it was a case of being too comfortable, or not, but the end result wasnt there that we needed. And its too bad. ALEX STALOCK: Well have to carry it [the loss] years from now too. We had a brief [team] meeting today and, maybe youve got to go through some of these lows to get to the ultimate high and I guess this is probably the ultimate low in hockey. ANTTI NIEMI: It ended way too early, almost like the toughest way possible, giving up a 3-0 lead in Game 7. A big disappointment for us, of course. Overall in a long season, I thought we had a lot of ups and downs.
