A Calfire spokesman has confirmed the plane that crashed Tuesday while fighting the Dog Rock Fire in Yosemite was an S-2T air tanker, an older model US Navy plane converted to fight wild fires. Officials have not said the number of Calfire personnel on board the plane in question, but said, typically, those planes carry just one pilot. Officials did say, however, its possible a mechanic was on board. Calfire has grounded its remaining 22 air tankers statewide as a precaution.
