A Centenary Tribute (1914 - 2014) “ELLE” Elle, an ardent spiritual aspirant, dreams of realising ‘true love’ in her conjugal life. Her poet-husband, although loyal and devoted, is unable to accompany her in her quest for this ‘true love’. She realises that so long as man remains human, this aspiration will always be a chimera. At this point, in the poet’s life, there appears a young woman — a clairvoyant and singer — who seeks his help to introduce her to his circle of great composers. During this meeting both feel an intense affinity towards each other. Moreover, the clairvoyant’s ability to see light around certain people, which she sees around the poet also, makes her feel she will always be protected by him. This prompts her to express her desire to live with him for ever, not knowing he is married. Elle, returning from a friend’s house, hears the last portion of their conversation. She decides to free her husband from their marriage bond, and before leaving, blesses them for a happy conjugal life. For her, a new journey in life begins. She says: “I know now for certain that only one love can satisfy my being, it is the love for the Divine, for that alone never fails.” “Elle”, a video film in French with English Sub-titles, is adapted from the French play “Vers l’Avenir” (Towards the Future), written by the Mother in 1949 for the Annual 1st December Programme. Mother also directed the play. youtu.be/yMDYSrjXTfo
