A Chennai-based group called Young Tamil Nadu Movement (YTNM) rounding up persons who have allegedly received pink slips from Tata Consultancy Services, looking to take on TCS legally - This news is very disturbing. While empathizing fully with the IT professionals of TCS stuck in the midst of a serious career crisis because of this situation, I want to warn and alert them against going with this group to voice their grievances or fight for their labor rights. The groups website ilanthamizhagam/ has all the content in Tamil except a brief intro in English that says Formerly, Save Tamils Movement, an independent political movement comprising IT professionals and youths, campaigns for the political, democratic and human rights of the oppressed people of Tamil Nadu. The movement was formed in November 2008 in the backdrop of Sri Lanka’s genocidal war against Eezham Tamils. Yes, this is the same group that kept creating ruckus in Chennai and parts of Tamil Nadu mobilizing college students with placards containing the picture of slain LTTE leader Prabhakaran, urging them to boycott their classes. The groups website contains vitriolic hate literature against Indian nationalism, Indian government and our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The group advocates Tamil Chauvinism and its agenda is racist and separatist. It is an open secret that this group is controlled by leaders of certain Christian theological seminaries of Tamil Nadu. Friends affected by TCS situation, please dont allow such a group to hijack your issue and cause. Create a forum that only projects itself as a body of professionals and knowledge workers. Dont commit the mistake of getting muddled in any political agenda, particularly such a disgusting and divisive one. Empower your campaign with all the civil, democratic rights that Indian constitution has given you. Workers bodies and trade unions already operating in the country should come and help these workers, offering counseling and other help, if those affected decide to take that route. Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), the biggest workers body in the country should jump in and take control before these professionals are misled by anti national forces like YTNM.
