A Christmas Rhapsody I wanna tell you a story about a man Who lived a long time ago in a far off land His name was Jesus and he did a strange thing So listen to the words I’m about to sing Now Jesus was a man who lived a life Free from worry yet full of strife He never met a man that He couldn’t love That’s ’cause He came down from above Now Caesar decided to tax the whole earth So everyone had to go back to the place of their birth So Joseph took Mary, his young pregnant bride And headed for Bethlehem - it was a mighty rough ride The trip was pretty tough but they survived But Bethlehem was crowded the night they arrived The inn was full -there was no place at the table So the couple had to stay out back in a stable They got all settled in - now my story gets stranger Mary gave birth to her son and laid him in a manger The shepherds were out with their flocks that night When an angel appeared and filled them with fright The angel announced to them the birth of the King Then a choir of angels came and they all started to sing They sang glory to God - it was quite a thrill - Of peace on earth to men of good will The shepherds left their flocks and went to see the sight They were all filled with joy on that miraculous night Wise men also came after traveling far Following a bright and shining star When they finally found the baby they caused quite a stir When they offered him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh They never told Herod, they were warned in a dream That made him very mad that they had foiled his scheme Yea, he was born in a stable in Bethlehem He was raised by a carpenter to be a real man He grew tall and straight and good Just like His Father knew that he would At the age of 12 he taught the teachers Knew more about God than all the preachers ’Cause God was His father and He knew Him real good So if anyone knew Him Jesus sure should At the age of 30 He had to leave home Left all that He had to wander and roam To do His Father’s business that was His task And that’s what He’d tell ’em whenever they asked For 3 whole years He traveled the land Preachin’ and teachin’ - a miraculous man He made the rulers angry and full of hate So they schemed and plotted and sealed His fate Crucify Him! Crucify Him! that was their cry And no one even stopped to wonder why So they got their way and it looked like they’d won But God’s great plan had just begun So they hung Him there at Calvary Nailed Him tight to the cruel tree He didn’t have to do it, He could have been free But He hung right there for you and me Now you see that grave couldn’t hold Him there He burst right out of that solid stone snare Went back to His Father to sit by His side One day with Him I’ll go to abide You ask me how I know for certain That’s ’cause by His death he ripped the curtain That separates a man from the glories above But that’s finished now because of God’s great love Now all that is needed for you to be free Is accept that death upon that tree There’s no reason to delay Just ask Jesus to come in today This same Jesus is comin’ back again Don’t ask me where or how or when But He’ll be back just like He said To judge the world and raise the dead. Then some will go to heaven and some will go to hell And where you’ll go is for you to tell So if you want to escape the Judgment that burns You better get right before He returns I just told you a story about a man Who lived long time ago in a far land His name was Jesus and He did a strange thing So now you know why I had to sing - about Jesus David Fannin
