A Confusing Christ? Key Passage At that time Jesus followers came back from town. They were surprised because they saw Jesus talking with a woman. But none of them asked, What do you want? or Why are you talking with her? — John 4:27 ERV (Read Full Text) Key Thought The disciples return and find themselves confused and astonished. Jesus was doing the unthinkable—he is visiting with a woman from Samaria. During their journey with Jesus through his years of ministry, they will find themselves confused again and again. Why? Because Jesus came to reach the lost, to save the sinner, to heal sick. He reached out and touched the untouchables and welcomed the outcast and sinners. He broke the religious cultures rules of engagement as he broke through every prejudice and every barrier to reach the seeking heart. We may not know how to cross barriers as well as he did, but we know we must try. This was not just example; it is also his final command to us. He is not really the confusing Christ; he is the Christ on a mission to reach the world. Lets join him in his conquest. Prayer Father, please give me a heart for people that are seeking for your life. Give me wisdom to see the opportunities to touch these seekers that you have placed in my path. Let my love for the lost astonish others to your glory and to further the ministry of Jesus, in whose name I pray. Amen. Related Scriptures Jesus was going through the city of Jericho. In Jericho there was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a wealthy, very important tax collector. He wanted to see who Jesus was. There were many other people that wanted to see Jesus too. Zacchaeus was too short to see above the people. So he ran to a place where he knew Jesus would come. Then Zacchaeus climbed a sycamore tree so he could see Jesus. When Jesus came to that place, Jesus looked up and saw Zacchaeus in the tree. Jesus said to him, Zacchaeus, hurry! Come down! I must stay at your house today. Then Zacchaeus came down quickly. He was happy to have Jesus in his house. All the people saw this. They began to complain, Look at the kind of man Jesus stays with. Zacchaeus is a sinner! Zacchaeus said to the Lord (Jesus), I want to do good. I will give half of my money to the poor. If I have cheated any person, I will pay that person back four times more! Jesus said, Today is the day for this family to be saved from sin. Yes, even this tax collector is one of Gods chosen people ! The Son of Man came to find lost people and save them. — Luke 19:1-10 Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son. God gave his Son so that every person that believes in him would not be lost, but have life forever. God sent his Son into the world. God did not send his Son to judge the world guilty. God sent his Son so that the world could be saved through his Son. — John 3:16-17 Then Jesus and his followers left that place. They went through Galilee. Jesus did not want the people to know where they were. Jesus wanted to teach his followers alone. Jesus said to them, The Son of Man will be given to people that will kill him. After three days, he will rise from death. But the followers did not understand what Jesus meant. And they were afraid to ask him what he meant. — Mark 9:30-32
