A Crestview man is charged with trespassing within a school safety zone following an investigation by School Resource Officers into a report of a suspicious person near a Crestview elementary school Thursday morning. A staff member had spotted a man standing in the wood line around 7:30 this morning, the time that students from both Riverside Elementary and Shoal River Middle School begin walking to school. It was reported he was watching children and that he had also approached a child and offered him his jacket before walking back into the woods. SRO’s, other deputies, and a Crestview Police Officer searched the area and located fresh foot prints on the dirt road. An OCSO K9 started a track and followed it along a dirt trail. Eventually they spotted a man matching a description of the suspicious person. He was identified as 24-year old Ryan Johnson of East Railroad Avenue. During questioning, Johnson told deputies he goes near the woods on Redstone Avenue because he likes to watch the girls walking to school and fantasize about them. Johnson was charged with trespass on a school safety zone, a second degree misdemeanor. Arrest report is attached to news release on OCSO webpage under News Releases.
