A DAY IN PROVENCE I put the book down One year in Provence by my favorite author Peter Mayle. Though I was driving to Starbucks, in my imagination I was already walking the hills of Provence. It was still very early, no cars or joggers. Dense fog had lazily draped the canyon this morning. I sipped warm chai savoring its sweet taste. Fine mist of dew was silently settling on the patio table. Though strawberry farms had not woken up from their winter slumber, potted geraniums were very happy to oblige me with big pink blossoms. Small bells of flaming orange red honeysuckle were making love to a hummingbird; iridescent green of his feathers was barely visible. Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. Hummingbirds open our eyes to the wonder of the world and inspire us to open our hearts to loved ones and friends. Like a hummingbird, we aspire to hover and to savor each moment as it passes, embrace all that life has to offer and to celebrate the joy of everyday. The hummingbird’s delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has meaning and that laughter is life’s sweetest creation. In silence I listened to the flutter of the hummingbird wings and occasional dripping of the dew drops from the eucalyptus tree above. The hawk was waiting again this morning on one of the eucalyptus branches, maybe he was watching me.
