A DIRGE FOR THE #SAFAPARK I USED TO KNOW #SAFAPARK is a 64 hectare urban park located in Al Safa Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is 10.53 km southwest of the traditional center of Dubai along Sheikh Zayed Road and somewhat close to the famed worlds tallest building #BURGKALIFA. #SAFAPARK has a 3.5km parameter fence around which runs a beautiful track, where the young and old walk, jog, run, stretch and twist, all day long, to stay healthy. Like many such parks in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, #SAFAPARK is another sad reminder that Nigeria lacks visionary leadership. Since my first attraction to #SAFAPARK in January 2012, walking/jogging twice or thrice around its 3.5km track, thrice a week, is an addiction whenever Im in Dubai. Recently however, as it is the culture here in the UAE, the government of Dubai has chosen to add more value to existing value in the SAFA neighborhood and this obviously is going to affect my beloved jogging track. From the look of it, the length the track may be reduced to maybe 3kms. While I marvel at the vision of these Arabs, who have created so many Parks in the desert and drinking water 24/7 from the Sea, while my own government in Lagos State (the Center of Excellence, sic) cannot provide water water and parks, even while surrounded by billions of gallons of fresh water bodies and rains, while The Jagaban and his collaborators have shared out the thousands of acres that should have been devoted as parks into private hands, I cannot but miss the old #SAFAPARK I knew, for this new (and usually better) one being built by my Arab hosts. To His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, I say Shukram. I pray one day my country will be like yours. #NigeriaGoBetter #LifeIsMoreThanMoney
