A DOUBLE Proverbial gut check: Intelligent children make their parents proud; lazy students embarrass their parents. (In preparation to return to school I share with my high school guys that school is a simple act of obedience - teacher says to do, you do - you do, you pass. If not, you fail. Some kids learn the course faster or slower, but the obedience is the same.) The empty-headed treat life as a plaything (possibly screaming #yolo) ; the perceptive grasp its meaning and make a go of it (rather than relying on the efforts of others, they work to establish themselves).
