A Day in Store July 17th, 2013 Suzanne Benner Take Today’s Next Step: Learn to ‘Share’ “The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled and human pride brought low; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day. The Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled)…” (Isaiah 2:11-12) Isaiah promises God’s redemption of mankind, but he also assures us of a day of judgment. “The arrogance of man will be brought low and human pride humbled; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day, and the idols will totally disappear.” (Isaiah 2:17-18) Knowing God will one day judge the wickedness of man, causes us to pause and consider our actions. Salvation comes only to those who trust in Jesus. Understanding that one day God alone will be exalted brings us great joy! Too often we see evil winning. The proud and arrogant succeed. The powerful trample the weak. Liars twist the words of the innocent. The rich exploit the poor. We find hope knowing justice will reign on that day and conviction accompanies that knowledge. The foolishness of our thinking becomes clear. Why do we put confidence in our own strength or someone else’s? The strength of an athlete, the charm of a beauty, the influence of a leader, the wealth of a billionaire—none of these possess any power against God. “Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?” (Isaiah 2:22) Great and powerful God, You alone are Almighty. Forgive me for putting my confidence in my own abilities or in people who seem powerful. Help me to humbly remember that You have a day in store to triumph. You alone are God. Amen. Questions: In whom do I put my confidence? How can I make sure God is the One exalted in my life?
