A Donkey’s day . . . at Eseltjiesrus Hee haw folks! You may wonder what we DO all day? Well, we graze at sunrise and wait for our breakfast to be delivered. Us oldies get special bowls of soft food in a separate shelter, so we can chew slowly with our few remaining teeth and not be bothered by the herd. After that our care staff brush us, clean our eyes and hooves and apply a lovely soothing cream to any little skin problems. Very important: fly repellent is wiped on in the hot weather! Then we relax and think about how lucky we are, with grazing in between to keep food trickling through our systems. From Thursdays to Sundays we are kept busy meeting visitors and showing them what special, humble and loving creatures we are. By 4pm we are ready to have supper, and when it gets to sunset the younger ones often run around and play wild games till it gets dark. During the cool nights we alternate grazing with snoozing. Every two months our hooves get trimmed, and often groups of children visit us to learn about caring – caring for us, all animals and people. All this is made possible by support from YOU – the wonderful people who act as Donkey Ambassadors. Thank you and do come and visit us! Love and hairy hugs from Eeyore and colleagues
